Working as a Background Artiste (Extra)

I work as a background artiste in my spare time.   I got into it through the Glamour Job GetonTV and Film Club.....   It's amazing.  I signed up a few months ago and so far I have had 4 jobs... the latest of which was a music video with Ozzie Osbourne last week....

My role was very simple.  All I had to do was to walk on set on cue with a guy that I had been paired up with for the day.  We had to walk behind a bus shelter, where Ozzie was sitting with his bulldog singing his new release "In my life"....  Easy peasey!!

Ozzie didn't say much, he just arrived, walked past us all and took up his position, then after we had shot the first scene he went back to his trailer and had a rest and then came back for the next take....

It's considered really "uncool" and unprofessional to ask for autographs when on set, but it was great to be part of it and see him in the flesh.

I got paid £50 for 3 hours work, but most of that was spent hanging around.... this is just normal and something you get used to.

Other jobs I have done through GetonTV have been working on a feature film with David Soul, which involved me being part of a crowd scene in the Town Hall in Kensington...  That was a FAB day too...   I got picked for the front row as I looked very "1940's" so you will sure to see a glimpse of me on screen,,,,

I was talking to some people on the day who worked on Holby City... they got paid for laying in bed all day and looking sick!!  Can't be bad.

Working as a Background Artiste or Studio Extra can be great experience and who knows what it could lead to.   It's hard to make a living out of it unless you list yourself with good agencies and are prepared to keep putting your name out there.....   A good way to find out what is going on is to do what Sarah did and join our GetonTV service, which emails details of upcoming shows directly to you as they come in... you can also have your profile posted on the Glamour Job Website so that producers can see your photo and details at a glance...
