Job Description - Tennis Player

Being a professional tennis player can be a very glamorous job, taking you all over the world but involves a lot of very hard work and determination to reach the top. The origins of tennis have been found to date back to the 12th Century in France. The game was called tennis in the 1870’s no one knows the exact origins of the name although some say it comes from the French word tendere (to hold). The first world tennis championships were held in Wimbledon in 1877. Today there are approximately 2800 Lawn Tennis clubs in the UK and Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the world.

Training & Qualifications

To reach the top as a professional tennis player like Venus and Serena Williams, Martina Navratilova and Boris Becker to name but a few, takes a lot of very hard training and dedication.

Most professional tennis players started out playing at local tennis clubs and working their way up through playing tournaments to a professional level.

Personal Qualities

To make it to a professional level playing tennis player your must have the highest level of fitness and stamina. You must be very committed and be a highly competitive person.
