Job Description - Actor Acting can span a number of mediums… television, film, radio, theatre… In all cases, acting involves communicating a scripted or improvised piece to an audience.Work can include all types of subjects including education, commercials, community and fringe theatre and whilst there are some fortunate actors who rise to great fame and fortune, there are many who have to endure long periods of unemployment before they are "discovered" ifat all. Nevertheless if you don’t get started then you will never know if you could have made it! Training & Qualifications Drama school is the norm for most actors. Some Drama Schools require GCSE’s and A Levels. You will probably have to audition to enter the Drama school and there is a lot of competition, however this will give you a taste of what is to come in your future career, therefore it is good practice. Drama School courses usually last 2 –3 years. If you are unable to attend Drama School then you could join a repertory company or a fringe theatre… this is the hard route, but not impossible, particularly if you are a "natural". Personal Qualities An Actor needs, imagination, emotion, intelligence, physical fitness and stamina and a good memory for scripts and stage/set instructions.
